So, if you are capping game footage at 720p or 1080p, you should upscale it to at least 2K, after you edit it. But the bitrate on their 1080p is still not great, particularly for high motion games.

1080p and up gets VP9 compressions, which is very similar to H.264. Anything under 1080p gets a really low quality compression codec. They don't really give adequate bitrate for gaming videos under 2K. Something to note about youtube is you have to play their bitrate game.
